Jiří Černický

05/06/2017 - 20/06/2017

Artworks of Jiří Černický are full of expressive changes, gestures and humor. Jiří Černický is one of the key authors who is confidently moving on the art scene from the beginning of the nineties. Laureate of the Soros Prize (1996) and Jindřich Chalupecký Prize (1998) is currently professor of painting at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He works especially in the medium of painting, multimedia installation, but also devotes himself to musical creation or action art with overlaps to photography and literature.

Jiří Černický moves on the labile interface of fiction and reality. With the same confidence he presents research in hi-tech as a revelation of parallel historical processes. Prominent scientific non-participation and precision is always accompanied by criticism, global engagement is organically mixed with intimate anxiety.

One of the characteristic themes in his work is the issue of the development after communist era in Czech Republic, interest in public space, advertising and design, identity search, myth and mystification or tracking overlaps within media, genres, and directions. The works of Jiří Černický are represented in many world galleries and art collections.
